Theme: Seasons

Providing an additional platform to showcase your handcrafted work.

Every month, we share a theme. Makers from all over the country are invited to create new work or share photos of existing work that relates to the chosen theme of the month. The theme for August 2023 was 'Seasons.'

Chris Doy

Chris Doy

Maker: Chris Doy
Craft: Woodcarving

What inspired this piece: Our former neighbours daughter is called Holly and she is expecting her second child. So I thought I'd carve two holly leaf dishes, one left and one right handed. I had some off cuts from a lime blank that were just right. Holly represents the winter season and a birth represents the new beginning promised by spring.

Peter Jackson
Peter Jackson

Maker: Peter Jackson
Craft: Woodturning

What inspired this piece: This is a piece inspired by the work of Nick Agar using the techniques I learned from him on several demonstrations and the stencils that you can get. an interesting piece of beech, I wouldn't call it spalted but it definitely has some interesting colour and markings, bought from a shop near me. I enjoy woodturning and colouring.

TVR Treen

Maker: Trevor Dakin
Craft: Woodturning

What inspired this piece: When I holidayed in Crete I saw in every gift shop beautiful turned pieces made from olive wood. On the last day our tour guide presented me with a piece of an olive branch from her log burner wood pile. I made this beautiful dried flower vase from it.
