What tools do I need to get started?
We always recommed buying the best high speed steel (HSS) tools you can afford. With due care and attention they can last a lifetime. Poor quality or badly sharpened tools can lead to frustration and can often be the cause of a novice becoming disillusioned and giving up the hobby. Sharpening is critical to effective turning and is therefore an important skill to learn. A range of sharpening systems can be found in our Sharpening section. Remember the better your tools are sharpened the longer they will last and the easier they will be to use.
