Purpleheart

"I bought a couple of spindle blanks this time around, American Black Walnut and Purpleheart. Both pieces were great quality wood but unfortunately, the Purpleheart blank was lacking in colour and whilst this wood tends to start out brown but turns purple after a few days of machining, this particular blank is only giving the slightest hint of purple after two days. Please note that this is not the fault of Turners Retreat as wood is wood and no two pieces behave the same and this was just a piece not destined to give the vibrant colour we associate with Purpleheart. A piece of it has already produced a beautiful project but just not as "purple" as I would have liked. There's wood for you! In the past I have had Turners Retreat phone me to say they have the wood I had ordered but there are defects which they have explained to me before asking if I wish them to despatch it. Can't ask for better customer service than that. "
