Turn & Burn Demonstration Day

Join us on Saturday 3rd June for our next ‘Turn & Burn’ demonstration day at Turners Retreat!

On Saturday 3rd June, we’re hosting a ‘Turn & Burn’ demonstration day at Turners Retreat!

We’ll be joined by some very special guests that will be ready to show off their skills, share hints and tips and answer any questions you may have. All demonstrations will run at the same time. You are welcome to spend as much or as little time with each demonstrator and browse our store at your own pace.

Please note, this will not be a seated or recorded event.

And what’s a good show without a good show offer? We’ll have exclusive offers and discounts across our entire product range, in-store only!

This event is completely free to attend, with free parking. No tickets needed, just turn up when you’re ready! Demonstrations will start at 10am but the store will be open from 9:30am for early browsing if you want to be the first to grab those offers!

We really hope you can join us; it would be great to see you!

Demonstrators

Chris Parker aka The Bald Woodturner

As a full time turner, artist, demonstrator and teacher, Chris enjoys being able to pass on his knowledge to others. His passion for the craft of woodturning is as strong now as it was when he started. Chris enjoys texturing his turned pieces with various techniques, from a simple wire brush to more advanced tools.

Come along and help us give Chris a very warm welcome to Turners Retreat. We can't wait to see him in action!

Kate Kitchin

Kate has been woodturning for almost 8 years since leaving school, and her hobby quickly developed into a passion! Since appearing on BBC2’s show, ‘Jay’s Yorkshire Workshop’, Kate has overcome woodworking machinery fears, expanded her knowledge and recently became an AWGB approved woodturning tutor.

Kate’s inspiration comes from the natural beauty of wood, what can be done with it and the sense of achievement that comes from being a maker - a little imagination goes a long way!

Kez from Spirit & Bear

Born in Nottingham, Kez is a self taught artist that has worked with many artistic mediums, including painting, wood carving, scroll saw art and pyrography. Inspired by tattoo art, animals and film, Kez creates very fine detail and layers of shading to add texture and depth to her woodburned pieces.

The level of detail in Kez's work is to be admired! Come meet Kez and see her work for yourself, whilst learning some traditional pyrography techniques! Kez will show you ways to add dark tones and depths by shading, how to clean your points to get a cleaner burn and talk you through textures that can be achieved with the points available.

ConnieFlower

Inspired by her Welsh heritage, Connie creates unique pieces of art using the age-old technique of pyrography. Using a variety of woods, Connie burns intricate details into each piece by hand, creating a beautiful collection of bespoke wooden wares that are both functional and fun. Connie has recently started sharing woodburning hints and tips on her social media pages and we're delighted that she'll be here in person at this event!

Expect to learn how to add colour to your pyrography work, using a variety of techniques and different paints. And for those who 'don't feel artistic enough' to draw freehand, Connie can show you how to transfer designs and text onto wood using carbon paper to create templates for you to follow.

Tony Kwasniak

Tony was a hobby woodturner before joining Robert Sorby in the 1980’s and was their demonstrator for a number of years, promoting and selling their tools in 17 different countries throughout the world.

Tony is hoping to pass on valuable hints and tips based on a combination of experience and not always getting it right first time! Hopefully, something for all pen turners from absolute beginners to seasoned pen-sters!

Paul Richmond

Paul, from Robert Sorby, one of the world's finest woodworking tool manufacturers, will be joining us to demonstrate the fantastic, ProEdge Sharpening System.

The Robert Sorby ProEdge offers effortlessly repeatable sharpening every time. Hugely versatile, this industrial strength machine is built to last and delivers astounding ‘factory finish’ results without fail. Perhaps the most simple to use sharpener on the market, this system replicates the industry standard of achieving a flat grind using the preferred method of belts over traditional grinding wheels.

Paul will be happy to show you how to sharpen your tools correctly to achieve the perfect sharp edge.
