Pyrography Focus Day

On Saturday 30th November, we’ll be joined by artists, Bob Neill and Lisa Shackleton, who will show you the magnificent world of pyrography!

Held at our store in Harworth near Doncaster, you’ll get to see first-hand demonstrations of a Peter Child pyrography machine in action, the chance to participate in a free workshop to give it a go yourself, plus an opportunity to browse our store and find out more about the blanks available and the different materials you can work on.

Welsh artist, Bob Neill, has been involved in arts and crafts all his life. He taught art for over 20 years, has published his own book and has also been awarded for his work several times during his career. Now working from his workshop in the South of Derby, Bob mainly works on wood, adding stunning designs to household objects such as stools, cheeseboards, platters and wooden spoons. The intricate detail and colour in his work will inspire you. Bob accepts commissions to personalise items for weddings, birthdays and other special occasions and also runs courses at Turners Retreat to help you enhance your skills.

Lisa Shackleton has also been teaching pyrography courses at Turners Retreat for many years. Lisa is an artist from Bingley and has been passionate about pyrography for almost 20 years. She supports and works with students in her local school and is often invited to do pyrography demonstrations at shows such as The North of England Woodworking and Power Tool Show, Makers Central and other shows further afield. Her new ‘Solid Point Pyrography’ book was also released earlier this year. Lisa enjoys burning on light woods and brings her work to life using watercolour paints and finishes. Lisa is extremely supportive and is a great tutor for anyone looking to get started in pyrography.

Both Bob and Lisa will be with us all day sharing their knowledge and expertise:

  • Take part in our pyrography workshops and watch demonstrations throughout the day
  • Learn more about shading techniques, colouring and what finishes to use
  • See the variety of pen points, accessories and blanks that are available
  • Have the opportunity to ask the artists for advice and guidance on something you’re working on

With free entry and parking, everyone is welcome! The workshops are suitable for beginners (over the age of 16) wishing to have a safe and enjoyable introduction into a new hobby. If you’ve done pyrography before, there’s nothing stopping you from joining in too and sharing your experiences! The workshops will be free all day so you can have a go at making your own decorative item to take home.

We will also have an exclusive discount on everything in-store! (excludes machinery - discount cannot be applied to any existing offers)
