Introducing New Courses for 2020
New to 2020, we're excited to introduce to you not one, but two new embellishing courses with our woodturning tutor, professional maker - Mick Hanbury. Both courses will be an instructional hands-on day. No prior knowledge is needed on either course, therefore they're are suitable for beginners and intermediates alike.
- Surface Enhancement
This course will focus on adding depth and detail to your work by texturing, piercing, power carving with burrs and burning using a pyrography machine. - Colouring on Woodturning
This course will focus on using paints and stains to bring your work to life. You will also learn techniques to airbrush your pieces using stencils.
These new courses will be held back to back so you can book one day if you have a style preference or attend both if you’d like to learn more about different ways to finish your work. If you decide to book both together, you will receive a complimentary £30 Turners Retreat Gift Voucher to spend as you wish!

Surface Enhancement
This course will teach you how to add a decorative touch to your work. You will learn how to add depth and intricate detail by piercing and power carving using burrs. You will also have the opportunity to work with a pyrography machine to create light and dark burns that will add texture to your work.
You will be provided with 2 pieces of work made by Mick for you to practice a variety of texturing styles and techniques. No woodturning will be done during this course, other than demonstrations by our tutor, therefore the course is suitable for beginners and intermediates. This course will focus on teaching you how to achieve stunning results for you to experiment on your own work after the course.
Colouring on Woodturning
The Colouring on Woodturning course will teach you how to add a personal, decorative touch to your wood turned pieces of work. You will learn how to achieve effective results using coloured paints and stains to take your work to the next level. You will also have the opportunity to experiment with airbrushes and stencils to create delicate shapes and patterns. In this course, you will use paints, stains, airbrushes, stencils and more!
There is no need for you to bring anything with you as you’ll be provided with 2 pieces of work made by Mick for you to practice a variety of colouring styles and techniques. No woodturning will be done during this course, other than demonstrations by our tutor. This course will teach you the skills you need to achieve spectacular and colourful results for you to experiment on your own work.
Our facilities include all personal safety protection and our fully insured workshop is equipped with a powerful, high efficiency dust extraction system. All materials required for the course are included.

In order to ensure a high ratio of student/mentor time, our courses are limited to a maximum of four students, ensuring each student receives the maximum help and assistance necessary. Places are sold on a first come, first served basis. We advise that you book early to avoid disappointment!

There are options to secure your place with a £20 deposit or pay the full amount upfront. If you opt to pay a deposit, the remaining balance of the course will be due on the day of the event.
