Specialist One-to-One Woodturning Course

Held at our store in Harworth, near Doncaster, our Specialist One-to-One course is an instructional one-day hands-on course with professional woodturner and tutor, Mick Hanbury. This course has been created specifically for an experienced woodturner that is comfortable with basic turning, wanting to enhance their skills in a new, specialised area.
This course is a one-to-one opportunity, completely tailored to your needs. You get to decide what you want to learn, whilst receiving the maximum help and assistance necessary to build your new skill.
Here are some examples of specialist areas you may wish to explore:
- Hollow forms and goblets
- How to make turned boxes
- Bowls with natural or square edges
- How to use texturing tools
Please note, you are not limited to choose an option from the list above, they are simply examples. If there’s something specific you would like to learn, Mick is happy to discuss your ideas and needs with you before you attend the course.
Once you decide to book one of our specialist courses, there will be a one-to-one discussion with Mick, to determine your current level/ability and offer advice on the potential success of developing your new skill to its full potential.
Please be aware that this course is specialist (not suitable for beginners), and we are reliant on your honest opinion of your existing skill. Without a good understanding and experience of turning, you may become overwhelmed with the tuition during this course. For beginners or for those wanting to build on their basic knowledge of woodturning, we highly recommend completing our 2-day Woodturning course before considering a specialist course.
Our facilities include all personal safety protection, and our fully insured workshop is equipped with dust extraction systems. All materials required for the course are included.

What you need to bring
- Your desire to learn!
- Your tools and any specialist equipment you may already own that you want to use during the course
- Face covering as a precaution if you would like to wear one
- Your own lunch and refreshments
Hot drinks and bottled water will be available.
We also advise that you wear comfortable, sturdy shoes and clothes you don't mind getting a bit dusty. Please note, woodturning smocks will not be provided during this time but you are encouraged to bring your own if you have one.
Times
The day runs from 10am to 4pm with a break in the middle for lunch. We ask that you try to arrive between 9:30am - 9:45am to have an initial chat over a cup of tea/coffee with your tutor before the course begins.

As our Specialist Woodturning courses are tailored to your specific needs, they are limited to one student per course, with dates sold on a first come, first served basis. We advise that you choose your preferred date and book early to avoid disappointment!
