Turners Retreat Autumn Event 2017 - 23rd September 9am - 5pm

Our key demonstrator this year is Les Thorn. Les has spent the whole of his life involved in the timber industry, first as a saw doctor then as a company director and now as a woodturner. Ocer many years Les has put a lot of time in to develiping his presentation and teaching and is sought after for his demonstration skills in the UK, America and Europe. A tool developer, magazine article contributor and DVD maker means that he is always kept busy both in the workshop and out on the road. Les thinks having never been a honny woodturner, has given him a pretty unique woodturning journey. In 2007 Les was lucky enough to be awareded a bursary from the Worshipful Company of Turners.

Tickets for the masterclasses are now on sale here: http://www.turners-retreat.co.uk/educational/demo-day-tickets-1

Our 2nd demonstrator is Sue Harker. Sue began woodturning at the turn of the Millennium when she bought her husband Graham a lathe for his birthday. Sue soon started to gain interest in her husband's hobby and before long was so enchanted with the beauty of timber and the endless possibilities available to the holder of the tools, Sue had to have a go. Soon Sue was the proud owner of her own lathe and chuck. With Sue's desire to create something different at competitions, it led her to the development of open segment work. These items have now become Sue's signature pieces. Sue turned professional in 2006 and by January 2007 was accepted onto the Register of Professional Woodturners. In the same year Sue was awarded a bursary from the Worshipful Company of Turners.

With a multitude of trade stands will be demonstrating their products and giving you the opportunity to ask questions, including Camvac, Record Power and a large team from Robert Sorby.

There will also be demonstrations from the stickmaster - Marc Cotterill and greenwoodworking from the Woodland Discovery Centre.

For those budding pyrographers we have two experienced burners - Bob Neill and Lisa Shackleton, with contrasting styles and work, you are sure to find a style to suit you - with plenty of opportunity to get hands on.
